The Secret Drop

“In a freezing snow‑covered camp, German soldiers surrounded us and demanded our surrender. Blindfolded officers brought the message to General McAuliffe. His written reply was just one word: ‘NUTS!’ The Germans were stunned—and so was I.”

The Secret Beach

I was at the beach with my sisters Ava and Emily. The Beach is in Stone Harbor, New Jersey. We were playing catch when the ball rolled down a dune. When I went to get the ball I ended up at Normandy Beach on June 6, 1944. As I looked around I saw boats, guns, planes and soldiers. I asked a soldier, Where am I? "Omaha Beach" Said the soldier. I saw the Germans firing their machine guns at the Americans. The brave Americans landed on Higgins boats and fought up the beach. I saw Paratroopers from the 101st Airborne Screaming Eagles land. I saw large Barrage Balloons attached to the ships. After Hours of fighting the Americans were pinned down and in serious trouble. It was then I heard Colonel George Taylor say to his troops, "There are two kinds of people who are staying on this beach, those who are dead and those who are going to die. Now let's get the heck out of here!"

“On my way into basketball camp with Ava, Emily, and my friends, Coach Ku pushed us to dribble perfectly—he always demanded our best. When my ball bounced off my foot and rolled into the hallway, we chased it on a water break. But when we stepped back into the gym, everything had changed. I recognized it from a World War I book I’d bought at the Cedar Creek Book Fair. We were in Sarajevo on June 28, 1914—and something terrible was about to happen.”

The Secret Portal

“The General said, ‘Go downstairs and sit with General Smith. Watch what happens with the Nazis and the surrender.’ I hurried downstairs and watched General Jodl and Grand Admiral Karl Dönitz, who had taken over after Hitler’s death, sign the documents. When they tried to speak, General Eisenhower stopped them: ‘Do you understand? I will hold you personally responsible if the surrender is not carried out. You are dismissed.’ The Germans quickly left.”
